Was it Arthur Doyle & Mary or Their Children Who First Made the Crossing From Ireland to Canada?

This blog has been under an assumption for many years that brothers Owen and Charles Doyle were the two Doyles who left Graiguenamanagh, Ireland for Canada. However, new genealogy indexes have provided some great new data! You can find this data on the Facebook group: Descendants of Arthur Doyle and Mary of Graiguenamanagh, Ireland.

Here are some discovered facts about Arthur - the patriarch of the North America Doyle Family from Graiuenamanagh :

1) Arthur Doyle was born in 1780 in Graiguenamanagh, Ireland, County Kilkenny.
2) Arthur Doyle was in Quebec  in route to Montreal on July 17, 1828.
3) So, he made it to Canada!

But ...
1) Did he complete the journey from Quebec to Montreal? Or did he pass away during the journey?
2) Did he arrive in Tyendinaga Township/Marysville-Ontario in Canada?
3) If so, perhaps he passed away fairly early on and was buried in a make-shift grave with a marker that has been lost.
4) His death/burial information are still to be found. So many possibilities.
5) But, he did make it to Canada!

This is fuzzy, and I'm not sure what ancestry research place it come from, but it asserts that Arthur died in Ontario, Canada. Click here to see the document a little closer.

And here's evidence that his wife Mary lived with their son Martin (other records indicate that she lived with her son Michael). This excerpt comes from ...
... the book "The Story of Holy Name of Mary Parish" ... which has a large section on the Doyles from Graiguenamanagh, Ireland who settled in Tyendinaga Township/Marysville, Ontario, Canada.

Are You a Descendant of Arthur Doyle and Mary of Graignuemanagh, Ireland (County Kilkenny)?

An Emigrant Ship in Dublin Bay - 1800s

If you believe you might be a descendant of Arthur Doyle and Mary Lownsdale* of Graignuemanagh, Ireland (County Kilkenny), consider requesting to join this Facebook group (see link below):

*For a time, it was suggested that a Mary Lownsdale was the wife of our Arthur Doyle; however, other details, such as church affiliation, hometown, and names of children do not match. So, there is a confidence that our Arthur most likely married a different Mary ... whose maiden name is yet to be determined.

Robert "Bob" Eugene Doyle Jr.: Memories of the First-Born of a Last-Born

I received some fun photos and family history details from Robert "Bob" Eugene Doyle Jr. - the oldest child of Robert Eugene Doyle & Betty Jane Keating. Bob's father was the youngest child of the John Albert Doyle & Florence Bates Doyle family.

Doyle Family Gathering - Consesus Lake - c. 1953

From Robert "Bob" Eugene Doyle Jr.:
I am kneeling in the  front row in the  white shirt next to  Danny Waldron. My mom is behind Danny and holding my brother Tommy. My sister Linda Doyle Popp is behind me, Grandma is holding my sister Patty Doyle Randle, and my Dad is fifth from the left in the back next to Crawley Waldron behind his wife Florence "Honey" Doyle Waldron. The photo was taken at the Conesus Lake  house where Grandma (Florence Bates Doyle) lived.

A Cropped Portion of the Photo ...
Florence May Bates Doyle—about 1 year before her passing.
(Florence's husband, John Albert Doyle, passed away in 1939.)

When Grandma Florence moved to the Lake full time, Marge Doyle Miller, my family, the  Dowlings, and then the Waldrons stayed there to help  her.  The Waldrons lived there for many more years after she died. Grandma Florence passed away about a year after the photo above was taken.

My father was Robert Eugene Doyle — John and Florence's youngest. I am Robert Eugene Jr. The oldest of their 8 children. My Dad was my best friend all of my life. He was a devoted family man who died suddenly at 54 years old in 1975. He is the reason for my career choice. I have had boats since the age of 7 yrs old, and still do 70 years later! I'm a retired Charter boat and Yacht delivery Merchant Marine Master Captain, living on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs Arkansas. I  grew up with Danny Waldron and Bobby Dowling. Uncle Arlington was my Godfather.

A Silent Movie With Some Doyle History! ~ Starting with the Wedding of Marion Doyle Frazer & Otto Frazer

Next week—September 21, 2021—would've been the 80th wedding anniversary of Aunt Marion Doyle Frazer and Otto Frazer! And what timing, for Margie Frazer (their daughter-in-law) recently sent a video of a conglomeration of Doyle Family events (not in chronological order) ... starting with scenes from this wedding day 80 years ago!

How Many Relatives can you identify?
- My brother John recognized John Albert Doyle at 15:13 & 16:16 ... which might be in the midst of the wedding day of Florence (Honey) Doyle’s wedding to Crabill Waldron.
- I see a priest in between the two John Albert Doyle shots ... I'm wondering if he is Fr. Daniel P. Daley (1894-1960) - Grandma Mary Bernadine's older brother - who served as a Missionary Priest on an Indian Reservation in Kadoka, South Dakota for many years.
Please share who you recognize (and the time location in the video) in the comments below!

Some additional comments and memories from Christ Frazer Miner, the youngest daughter of Marion Doyle Frazer & Otto Frazer ...
Thank you for the wedding video of my parents' wedding. I never knew that they had it. I never saw it! The lake house looked like Aunt Honey's [Florence "Honey" Doyle Crabill] house up at the lake. My Mom and Dad used to go up to Aunt Honey's place all the time with us kids. We'd eat dinner and us kids would swim while the adults talked and had drinks.
Aunt Honey lived in the house that she and my Mom grew up in. I think that might be the house my Mom and Dad went back to in the video.

Memories from Linda Doyle D'Amato - Granddaughter of Kenneth Doyle & Edna Bechle Doyle

Kenneth V. (Kenny) Doyle — c. 1930
1905-1968

Linda Doyle D'Amato, daughter of Gerald V. (Jerry) Doyle & Maryanne and the granddaughter of Kenneth V. Doyle & Edna Bechle Doyle, sent these great memories to share with other Doyle Dining Room readers ...

One memory I have about my grandparents (Kenneth and Edna) was going to their lake house at Henderson Harbor and sleeping on their summer porch. They had so many beds out there! We loved eating at the long narrow table inside facing the lake and watching the boats go by.

Another memory is of the times when we were young and would spend the night at their Rochester home.  I used to love combing my grandmother's hair! She loved it too and I would often comb her hair for so long that I think she fell asleep! 😂The seven of us kids used to love playing hide and seek upstairs in their house. In Uncle Dick's room, there was a little door that led to a small attic area. And in Grandma's room, there was a walk-in-closet with a door that also led out to the hallway....great places to hide from our siblings! LOL

5 Fast Facts on Graiguenamanagh, Ireland - The Origins of the Doyle Dining Room Family!

Graiguenamanagh, Ireland - 1997
 (County Kilkenny)

It was Arthur Doyle and his wife Mary ... who made that move ... who got on a boat and left for a New World, for new hope, a better life. They (along with some of their adult children purportedly left Graiguenamanagh, Ireland circa 1820s/1830s and found themselves in Tyendinaga Township/Marysville, Ontario, Canada. Some (all?) of their children who also moved to Canada are: Charles, Owen, Bridget, Catherine, Martin, and Michael.

Five Fast Facts on Graiguenamanagh, Ireland:
1) You can try to pronounce it: Gráig na Manach (GRAIG-na-MAN-ah).
2) Graiguenamanagh means, "Village of the Monks."
3) Graiguenamanagh is home to a 13th Century Cistercian Abbey (now a parish church) known as Duiske Abbey.
4) Not far from Graiguenamanagh are the ruins of the medieval Ullard Church — which was founded by St. Fiachra (FEE-uh-kra) who later moved to France and became known as St. Fiacre (fee-AHKr). St. Fiachra/Fiacre is the patron saint of gardeners.
5) Graiguenamanagh has great hiking trails and one of the few remaining authentic Irish woolen mills, creating cloth from the fleece of Irish sheep (Cushendale Woollen Mills).

The Feast of St. Fiachra/Fiacre is August 30.
